About
Wathaga means ‘at the fire’
In Darkinyung language, Wathaga means ‘at the fire’ — the place people gather to share knowledge with care and community authority. Wathaga is built by Kowa Collaboration.
A journey of purpose and impact
Kowa means “purpose” in the Awabakal language. Kowa was born from a vision: to see First Nations communities leading the way in shaping our futures.
Kowa's story began in 2019, sparked by the passion and determination of Dr Skye Trudgett, who saw a need for impact evaluation that truly honoured First Nations knowledge, values and aspirations.
We don't measure outputs. We work alongside communities to understand and evaluate the real impact of initiatives, programs and services.
Kowa is a First Nations, profit-for-purpose enterprise that reinvests its profits back into people, opportunities and initiatives that catalyse change.
Self-determination: communities shaping their own narratives and driving meaningful change.
Kowa founded by Dr Skye Trudgett.
Kowa's not-for-profit arm, focused on placemaking and system making, including Indigenous Data Sovereignty and self-determined impact measurement.
A First Nations-centred platform for measurement, evaluation and learning, built around the Kowa Theory of Change.
